What makes a good teacher?
Many people think that teaching is an easy job. They assume that if a person has sufficient knowledge in a certain field of study, then transferring information to others is quite easy. This might be true for those who have the innate talent of teaching; however, talent alone is not enough. Good teachers must work hard on improving their skills should they want to become professional in their career. Education, as a field of study was established in order to put the framework for these teachers on how to deal with their students in the classroom in the best way so that they may transfer knowledge to them in the most beneficial way.
Some of the most important traits a teacher ought to have are the following:
1- Knowledge of the subject matter: It is important for teachers to be knowledgeable in their fields. However, they must continue building their understandings of the subjects throughout their careers.
2- Patience: Perhaps patience is the most required trait a teachers ought to possess. They are expected to deal with immature students, with students who lack discipline, or with low achievers. Impatience with students is an indication of a teacher's own shortcomings.
3- Confidence: Good teachers maintain high self-confidence in their abilities and in their students' abilities to learn material that is presented in a logical and graduated fashion.
4- Organization: teachers must have the ability to organize their subject matters so that a maximum number of students benefits from their presentations.
5- Vision: Teaching is not merely the passing of information to students. Teachers should be illuminators who provide their students in addition to the useful material material, with where they might end up if they learn well.
6- Rapport: Teachers develop god rapport with their students. They gain their trust and respect at the same time.
7- Motivators: Teachers motivate their students by creating a positive classroom atmosphere and by urging them to work hard to reach their goals.
These are some of the many traits that teachers must possess if they want to be successful in their careers. They must always improve themselves and develop teacher-student interaction skills in order to make teaching a pleasant and beneficial experience.

ReplyDeleteBeing a teacher is not easy, it takes an effort to handle a class of 30 students. Knowledge is needed and allows the teacher to access students' minds but it is not everything actually, the teacher needs to be strict as well as patient otherwise she would face many problems. I believe that the most important thing in teaching is passion, because if the teacher doesn't love what she is doing and is not passionate about it she would not be effective as she is supposed to be.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, all the characteristics that you mentioned above are important and contribute in being an effective teacher, but still if there is no passion the teacher would not be as effective as she thinks.
